Jobs - Modelling of Anthropogenic Heat Emissions in Urban Environments

Cooler Calmer Singapore

We are developing an approach for modelling the dispersion of heat emissions from vehicles and buildings on a micro scale for areas as big as a few hundred meters square. As traditional CFD approaches are limited in scale and in their ability to consider dynamic environments with moving entities, our model builds on the employment of Cellular Automata.

Objective & tasks

The main objective of this thesis is to develop the physical models for simulating heat fluxes resulting from traffic emissions and buildings. For this purpose, the following tasks should be accomplished:

  • Development of physical models for heat transfer applicable to the context of urban environments.
  • Implementation of these models into a Cellular Automata-based simulation environment (in close cooperation with colleagues from the simulation group).
  • Conduction of experiments for model validation and calibration.
  • Conduction of an exploratory study illustrating the capabilities of the developed approach.

What we offer

  • Financial support
  • An international and multidisciplinary working environment
  • A great experience in one of the most dynamic megacities in Asia

What we expect from you

  • Solid background in thermodynamics and fluid dynamics
  • Knowledge in any object oriented programming language
  • Knowledge/interest in modelling and simulation
  • Team spirit and innovative thinking
  • Fluency in English
